Side-mount Hinges, similar to your front door, are attached to the sides of the glass door. They open in one direction only; outward or inward. On the other hand, Pivot Hinges are able to open both outward and inward. This is achieved by attaching the hinges to the top and bottom corners of the door. Pivot Hinges are usually more expensive than Side-mount hinges. The size of your shower and bathroom will determine which hinge system is right for you.
Single Doors are a great shower enclosure solution. If you are considering a Single Swinging door, keep in mind the space needed for the door to open. Since most Single Swinging Doors are installed in small showers, you will be required to have enough space for you to open the door outward. The door must be free from hitting other glass panels or outside elements like a cabinet or fixture. Moreover, with a Single Door design, you will only need to purchase a Side-mount Hinge system because you only need to open the door outward.
If you are planning on installing a Double Swinging Door design in a large shower, your layout options are virtually limitless. The shower spacing itself will provide enough room to open a door inward. Furthermore, Double Swinging Door designs typically use additional stationary glass panels. This provides you even more room in your shower to seemingly open your doors.
